Using a Dry Mop to Care For Your Floors

There are types of floors and furniture that should only be cleaned using a dry mop or a dry mop used with a cleaning dusting spray. Hard wood floors are one example of the type of floor that should never be cleaned wet. Having too much moisture put on it could damage the beautiful hardwood floor in your home. If you want to keep the finish on the floor in the best condition you will want to use a dry cleaning mop that is made for just this reason. The use of a dry mop that is made from one hundred percent cotton will be the best choice for a mop that will not scratch or damage your floor. If the floor begins to experience small scratches eventually it will begin to appear dull.

Dry mops are made to pick up and hold the dust and dirt particles that may be on your floor. These mops are ideal for cleaning your floor between your more deep cleanings of the hardwood floor. The mops are also good for eliminating the dust that can be spread through the air and cause allergies to be exacerbated. If you use your mop with the addition of a dust cleaning product you will be sure to minimize the amount of dust and dirt in the air.

To clean your floor you should always start at one end of the room and work your way in. You should mop the floor using a figure eight pattern. This will keep the mop head on the floor and the dust moving toward you instead of being spread outward into the air. It is also easier on your back by spreading the workload through your arms and shoulders as well as your back. Make sure that the head of the mop is in constant contact with the floor. It is not like sweeping with a broom, the method is completely different.

You should never use your dry mop for a wet mop. Dry cleaning mops are made to be used dry. You will be able to wet mop your floor with a dry mop, but you will ruin the mop and you won't be able to use it again as a wet mop or a dry mop. There is no way to squeeze the water out of a dry mop. Squeezing the water out of a dry mop with your hands will be very hard on your back, not to mention a very messy process. There is another reason that you should not wet mop your floor with a dry mop. Most special flooring like hardwood should never be mopped with water. You should check out the directions for your floor that the manufacturer provided to see the method that is recommended. To clean your floor in the best possible way, make sure you use the right tools and the right products.

When you are cleaning your floor with a dry mop you should never scrub the floor with the mop. If you find that there is dirt that is difficult to remove you should find another method to clean the floor. The manufacturer for use on your type of floor should recommend the products and equipment that you use. If you scrub the floor you are risking damage by grinding in the small dirt particles that are caught in your dry mop.

Your dry mop will likely be designed to be able to get behind and under a variety of pieces of furniture. You no longer have to move your furniture around the room to thoroughly clean. You also will not have to bring your vacuum all over the house just to get behind the furniture. A lot of dry mops have removable heads for easy cleaning. This allows the mop head to be used as a duster as well. You will also not have to replace the mop every time the head gets dirty.

Even though you can replace the head easily on a mop with a removable head, you are still able to clean it. To clean the mop head properly you should take it outside. Just shake it good and hard to remove all of the dust and dirt. Do not bang the mop against the house or on cement to avoid damaging the head. If you have used a cleaning product on the mop head you should wait for it to dry completely before you attempt to shake out the dirt. Remember these mops were made to hold in dust and dirt so you will have to shake the mop pretty hard to get all of the dirt out.

When you put your dry mop away you should always make sure that it is left upside down with the mop head up off the floor. You do not want to put any pressure on the mop head to avoid damage to the head.
