Vertical Blinds Care and Repair Instructions

Vertical blinds are a great option for large windows, sliding glass doors, or just to add the illusion of height to a room. However, you need to be aware of some basic care techniques to keep your blinds in tip top shape. Then when something does go wrong, you can take care of it quickly before it becomes an expensive repair.

Vertical Blinds Care Instructions
First thing you need to know is vertical blinds can be damaged if not taken care of properly. No one likes to deal with damaged blinds and you should not have to. They are easy to care for as long as you avoid some common mistakes.

Each blind is called a vane. It is important to keep these vanes aligned at all times to prevent damage. If one gets shoved aside or turned the wrong direction, it could break or break others, causing the additional expense of replacing vanes.

Watch Out for Overlap - Children touch the blinds, pets run behind them, and the wind blows, all of these things can cause your vanes to overlap. Before operating the controls, check the vanes to make sure there is no overlap and if there is overlap then undue the overlap before working the controls.

Sliding Glass Door - If your blinds are covering a sliding glass door, never leave the blinds closed when the door is open. This can cause two problems. First, the wind could blow causing your blinds to tangle. Second, people will have a tendency to push the blinds aside to walk through. This too will cause the blinds to tangle and overlap. Worst, the blinds could break if pushed aside.

Vertical Blinds Repair Instructions
There are some situations in which you can easily repair your own blinds. However, you need to be careful with your blinds. Not all blinds adjust the same way and you could end up breaking your blinds if you try to force them.

Open and Shut Method - Sometimes the vanes get twisted and face the wrong direction. If this happens, you can try turning the controls to open and then shut the blinds again. In many cases, this will get the blinds to reset themselves.

Manually Resetting the Blinds - If the open and shut method does not work, you can try to adjust the blinds by hand. Gently turn the stem to get the blinds back in place. Do not force it. Not all blinds will allow you to reset them this way. You could break your stem if you force it.

Vertical blinds are durable but do need some basic care. With these simple instructions, your blinds should last you a long time.
