How to Take Care of Bermuda Grass

If you are wondering which grass to have in your lawn, then Bermuda grass is a great option. The advantage of Bermuda grass is that it is both relatively easy to maintain and provides a great look to your lawn. In addition, walking on this grass with your bare feet is extremely soothing to your system. Bermuda grass is originally found in the savannahs of Africa and from there it has been exported into the USA, where it has become extremely popular.

Because of its huge popularity, many people prefer to have a lawn with Bermuda grass planted on it. There is a valid reason for why Bermuda grass is so much in demand and that is the maintenance factor. Bermuda grass is not so difficult to look after as some of the other grasses. All you have to do is to take care of the watering, mowing and fertilization for Bermuda grass to appear lush and beautiful.

When it comes to Bermuda grass, fertilization has to be always on the priority list. Since fertilization is so important, it is always better to go for professional services rather than attempting to do it yourself. This way, you will be assured a beautiful lawn with great looking Bermuda grass.

The great part about watering for Bermuda grass is that you do not have to do it everyday. Ideally, you should water this grass between four days to a week. Again, this grass does not require large quantities of water. Watering about an inch deep should suffice for Bermuda grass, but be sure to remember and do this when necessary.

Finally, you have to take care of the mowing for Bermuda grass. This again is an easy process, though it does take a bit of time. In the course of a year, if you were to spend 40 hours mowing the lawn, then you should get a great looking lawn of Bermuda grass.

While cutting Bermuda grass, always do it with a blade that has been sharpened. For great looking grass, mow your lawn twice a year. This means that even if you have a brand new blade for the summer mowing, you have to get another one for mowing during the spring time for maximum effectiveness. When mowing Bermuda grass, you have to take great care not to cut it too short. The ideal length that you should cut is around one third of the length of the grass blade. More than this is bad for the grass, so you should avoid it. If you wish to mow your garden more than two times a year, it is perfectly okay as doing this will guarantee that you are not cutting more than the required amount.

While mowing, see to it that you are dealing with dry grass and not wet grass. The problem with mowing wet grass is that could lead to clumps. Again, it is better not to throw away the clippings after a mowing, as the clippings are a convenient way for feeding the grass. This should be a part of your garden supplies kit. If you do not dispose of the clippings, the amount of water needed by the grass will always be less and you will also get a stunning looking garden.
